Those with eudermia can consider themselves lucky. This is the medical term for healthy, normal skin. Unfortunately, it remains reserved for a relatively small segment of society. Normal skin and its typical characteristics
This skin type is predominantly found in young people, but is somewhat less common in adults. The typical age range is between 18 and 35. The sebum and moisture levels are in a healthy balance. This means that the skin is neither too dry nor too oily. Accordingly, it reacts less sensitively to external influences. A smooth texture with fine pores is typical of this matte skin type. The complexion is rosy, and the appearance is fresh and balanced thanks to good circulation. Skin blemishes are rare. Redness and flaking are also not problems that need to be addressed.
Our skin is composed of three layers. The subcutaneous tissue is the deepest. Together with nerves, blood vessels, the lamellar bodies (which are sensitive to pressure stimuli), and subcutaneous fat, it forms a single layer. Above this layer is the dermis. It is also known as the sebaceous glands, which produce exactly the right amount of lipids in normal skin, thus ensuring its suppleness. The sweat glands are also located in the dermis. Their function is to regulate the skin's moisture balance and body temperature.
The epidermis, which is between 0.03 and 0.05 millimeters thick, is responsible for cell division. The skin therefore renews itself directly at the surface – this occurs primarily at night. The epidermis is also known as the epidermis. It consists of approximately 90 percent of a horny layer, which includes special cells that first keratinize on the skin's surface before being shed. This renewal process occurs on average every four weeks.
Possible risks for normal skin
As resilient as normal skin is and as attractive as its appearance may be, there are still many risks. It's also important to keep in mind that this condition doesn't last a lifetime. The aging process alone causes changes. Sebum production decreases, and the protective layer gradually dries out. Apart from that, there are various factors that can influence the skin.
A typical example of this is UV radiation. On the one hand, the body needs sunlight to produce vital vitamin D. On the other hand, ultraviolet light also poses a danger to the skin. The immediate consequence can be sunburn. In the long term, skin aging accelerates, and wrinkles form more quickly. Elasticity decreases, and the skin becomes looser. Pigmentation or moles can also develop if we are exposed to sunlight for too long. Another danger in this context is the use of certain medications that can cause allergic reactions when exposed to UV radiation. Sunscreen is therefore recommended for everyone.
An unhealthy diet also affects the appearance of the skin – more so than one might initially suspect. In order for the protective covering to remain fine-pored, even, and as smooth as possible, it needs vitamins and minerals. Therefore, fruits and vegetables should be included in your diet regularly. Alcohol and cigarettes should be avoided. Nicotine disrupts blood circulation and metabolic processes in the body. This can adversely affect normal skin, and its color can change. A delicate, rosy complexion then gives way to a gray, pale appearance. Alcohol, meanwhile, stimulates sebum production, which causes pimples and blackheads. Another undesirable consequence: the blood vessels dilate, which is primarily noticeable on the face. Other risks to normal skin include excessive stress, lack of sleep, and hormonal changes.
Cleansing and care for normal skin
The good news: Normal skin isn't demanding. To keep it that way and maintain its attractive appearance for as long as possible, regular care is essential. The foundation is cleansing, which is generally quite straightforward. It should be done daily—preferably morning and evening—because even normal skin naturally accumulates dirt and dead skin cells.
When choosing a suitable product, there are only a few basics to consider. Therefore, Dermaplan offers a very wide range for normal skin. Alcohol-based cleansers are unnecessary, as they have a degreasing effect and would only disrupt the balance. A mild product with antibacterial properties, such as Dermaplan's Tonic Sensitive, Tonic Clear, or Tonic Basic, is sufficient. Wash Balance is recommended for face and body. Like all other Dermaplan products, it is free of any allergenic or harmful ingredients. Components such as silicones, fragrances, perfumes, mineral oils, emulsifiers, or preservatives are not used, ensuring it is particularly skin-friendly.
The Dermaplan After Shave Balm soothes irritated skin after shaving the face and body. At the same time, it moisturizes, thus preventing irritation. The oils it contains provide long-lasting protection for the skin and prevent it from drying out. For normal skin care, creams with a balanced proportion of fats and moisture are the first choice. Dermaplan offers Lipid Balance for this purpose. It is available in three levels, each with varying lipid content. Lipid Balance 1 has the lowest lipid content at 15 percent. This product is particularly suitable for the summer. In the transitional months of autumn and spring, however, Lipid Balance 2 is suitable, with a lipid content of 30 percent. Lipid Balance 3 has the highest lipid content at 45 percent, which is why it is preferred in winter.
All DERMAPLAN products for normal skin are available in our online shop and in your pharmacy.
FAQ Normal skin
It's considered particularly aesthetic and the ideal condition: Everyone probably desires normal skin – however, it remains reserved for a relatively small group and, unfortunately, is usually not permanent. The aging process gradually diminishes the perfect complexion. In this section, we would like to answer the most frequently asked questions about normal skin. If we cannot answer your question here, please contact our customer support.
What characteristics are typical of normal skin?
A very balanced complexion is a typical characteristic of normal skin, which also has a harmonious moisture and sebum balance. Thus, it is neither too oily nor prone to dryness. There are no flaky or inflamed areas. Normal skin is very elastic and resistant to many external influences. It also has good blood circulation and a slightly rosy color.
What care is necessary for normal skin?
Generally, normal skin requires less attention than other skin types. Nevertheless, regular care is always recommended. If neglected or exposed to various factors over a long period of time, its appearance can deteriorate. To maintain its largely flawless condition for as long as possible, gentle skincare products free of harmful ingredients are recommended. Components such as emulsifiers, perfumes, fragrances, or even silicones should not be included. Strongly moisturizing properties are also counterproductive, as they would disrupt the skin's lipid balance.
How should I cleanse normal skin?
For normal skin, it is recommended to use gentle and mild cleansing products. Avoid harmful or allergenic ingredients that could disrupt the balanced protective barrier. Emulsifiers, preservatives, fragrances and perfumes, mineral oils, or even polyethylene glycols should be avoided. Thorough cleansing in the morning and evening with a well-tolerated cleanser is perfectly sufficient for normal skin.
What are the risks for normal skin?
Those who are lucky enough to have normal skin naturally want to maintain this condition for as long as possible. This skin type is most common between the ages of 18 and 35. With age, the protective layer of the skin tends to dry out. For healthy skin, nicotine and alcohol should be avoided as much as possible. Fast food with industrial fats worsens the appearance of the skin in the long run. A balanced diet that regularly includes fruit and vegetables is a better choice due to the minerals and vitamins they contain. Excessive UV radiation poses a further risk and can damage the skin. Other unfavorable factors include lack of sleep and stress, as well as overly aggressive skincare and cleaning products.
